Hello, I am using MAFA with two different MPD servers located on different sites.
I can reach both of them onsite and from internet. In other words I have four servers
to manage. I have MAFA configured to startup with “The Player”. When changing
my location and the last server cant connect I find it very tricky to change server.
As I use MAFA in my car it even can be rather dangerous…
It would be lovely to have a big direct button for server selection in the player, for example the same size as “Files”.
It would also be nice with the option to rurn on/off servers. For exemple when offsite it is no use for the app trying to connect a server only working onsite.
It would be nice to be able to exit the app and when staring having a startup screen with server selections.
When the last used server can’t be connected, MAFA automatically changes to the Disconnected screen.
In the Disconnected screen you should see a list of the servers that are connected and you can select which one to use by tapping it.
In the example below, the local server lost connection when WiFi was switched off and Mobile data was switched on.
The remote server appears in the list and can be selected by tapping it:
The latest MAFA version added the option “Ping during idle” in the server preferences, which helps detect disconnection due to dead connection. In some cases MAFA will not detect disconnection unless this option is turned on.
If this does not cover your use case I’ll need more information on what exactly is the state of the app when you change location and have difficulty to change servers. A screen shot may help.
Hi, thanks for your quick answer. “Ping during idle” solved my problem and it´s much easier now to change server!
MAFA is really outstanding as MPD client!
When using MAFA onsite (LAN) the album art loads rather quick but when using it offsite (WEB) it takes very long time to load the cover.jpg file for me. I don’t know why because I have very fast internet connections from my two LAN and I have a 5G mobile phone.
As I use the same two MPD servers both onsite and offsite it should be useful if I could configure the player to use the same cover art cache for several servers. An option to read ahead all the covers for my collection is also something I really would like in the future.
Regarding album art download, MAFA tries to be gentle on resources usage so it downloads the image files one at a time and in small chucks. It is less noticeable on LAN because of the low latency but can be noticeable on WAN (higher latency accumulate for each chuck).
